Navratri Festival is celebrated by Hindus with great devotion for 10 days. Idol of Goddess Durga is worshipped during Navratri. People stay awake the whole night during the nine days of Navratri and play Dandiya and Garba. This festival is celebrated by all Hindus and has special significance in North Indian and Gujarati community.

Festival of Navratri is full of lights, joy and festivity. Hindus celebrate this with devotion and enthusiasm throughout India. The celebration is carried on for ten days and the last four days are very important. People fast, pray, chant, sing and dance during these days. People pray to Goddess Durga to destroy the evil during Navratri. They also perform traditional dance known as Garba almost throughout the night. They wear colourful dresses traditional dresses. On the 10th Day the festival ends with the Dussehra celebrations.

Allahabad, the Hindu Pilgrimage city, known for the world renowned KumbhMela. The city is situated on the meeting spot of 3 rivers — the Ganga, the Yamuna, and the invisible Saraswathi.Of more immediate interest to casual visitors are Allahabad’s grand Raj-era buildings, its Mughal fort and tombs, and the historic legacy of the Nehru family.

Allahabad Fort
The Fort is situated on the northern banks of the Yamuna, near to Triveni, the confluence. This majestic fort was built in 1953 and has three magnificent galleries flanked by high towers.

Also called Sangam, TriveniSangam is the meeting of three rivers: river Ganga, river Yamuna, and the mythical and invisible Saraswathi. This is the place where KumbhMela takes place.

Allahabad Planetarium
Built in 1979, Allahabad Planetarium was built to promote scientific thinking. The planetarium is located beside AnandhBawan. There are five shows on any day. Each show is a celestial journey. Each show features interesting and intriguing aspects related to space and astronomy.

AnandBhavan is, in fact, a large mansion established by prominent Indian political leader Motilal Nehru in the nineteenth century. It served as the ancestral home of the Nehru–Gandhi family(Late Prime Ministers of India)

From the Kitchen...

Veg Tehri

Potato, peas & Cauliflower Tehri or Vegetable Pulao is a favourite meal in Uttar Pradesh. It is served with curd, papad, pickle and clarifies butter (ghee).


  • 2 tsp - oil
  • 2 - Bay Leaves
  • 1 stick - Cinnamon
  • 4 - Cloves
  • 1/4 tsp - Jeera
  • 2 - potatoes, peeled and cut into quarters
  • 2- Tomatoes chopped
  • 10 pieces - cauliflower, cut into chunky florets
  • 1.5 cups - basmati Rice
  • 1/2 tsp – Ginger/GarlicPaste
  • 2 pinches - Asafoetida
  • 3/4 tsp - Red Chilli powder
  • 1/2 tsp - Turmeric powder
  • 1/2 tsp - salt
  • 2 cups - water


Heat oil in a cooker for about 3 minutes. Add bay leaves, cinnamon, jeera and cloves to it. Stir it for a few seconds.Add tomatoes. Stir fry for about 2 minutes.potatoes and cauliflower to it.Add all the other ingredients except water and garam masala powder. Stir fry for about 3 minutes. Add water and stir.

Close the cooker. Bring it to full pressure on high heat. Reduce the heat and cook for 3 minutes. Allow it to cool, sprinkle garam masala powder on it and serve it hot with curd.
