Winters are knocking the doors and we are gearing up for an array of festivals and celebrations. As India is in best of the moods we introduce to you the most favourite region of India- AGRA and the Taj Mahal. Wander around the Taj and try the favourite Mughlai dish - Butter dish with our recipe.

Famed with one of the Seven Wonders of the World - Taj Mahal, Agra is one of the most popular tourist destinations in India. Agra is a virtual fort of history and architecture located in Northern India, a few hours away from the Capital city- New Delhi. Historical monuments, architectural grandeur ventures and the beauty of marbles, Agra is located at the banks of River Yamuna and boasts of 3 UNESCO World Heritage Sites.

Taj Mahal
One of the Seven wonders in the world, a must see place in India, Taj Mahal is synonymous to Agra.

Agra Fort
A World Heritage site, also renowned as the Red Fort of Agra, Agra Fort is located near to the Taj Mahal gardens on the banks of River Yamuna.

Fatehpur Sikri
Fatehpur Sikri is a town located about 40 km away from Agra and is one of the renowned World Heritage site by UNESCO. The city was built during the period 1571 to 1585 by great Mughal emperor Akbar.

Bharatpur Bird Sanctuary
The Bharatpur Bird Sanctuary is now known as the Keoladeo National Park. The sanctuary is home to more than 230 species of birds and a declared World Heritage Site.

Shopping at Kinari Bazaar
If you are a shopaholic, the most interesting among many things to do in Agra would be shopping at Kinari Bazaar.

Akbar’s Mausoleum at Sikandra
The tomb is one of the most notable masterpieces of the Mughal era. Built in 1605 to 1616, this tomb sprawls over 119 acres.

From the Kitchen...

Butter Chicken

Butter chicken is one of the most popular Indian curries across the world. The taste of the creamy bright coloured masala with chunks of grilled chicken in it is an unforgettable one. Must try!

Ingredients :

Boneless chicken cut into 1˝ inch pieces 400 grams
Lemon juice 1 tablespoon
Red chilli powder 1 teaspoon
Salt to taste
Butter 2 tablespoons

For marinade
Hung Curd 1/2 cup
Ginger paste 2 teaspoons
Garlic paste 2 teaspoons
Red chilli powder 1/2 teaspoon
Garam masala powder 1/2 teaspoon
Salt to taste
Mustard oil 2 teaspoons

For Gravy
Butter 2 tablespoons
Green cardamom 2
Clove 2
Black peppercorns 2-3
Cinnamon 1 inch piece
Ginger paste 1 teaspoon
Garlic paste 1 teaspoon
Tomato puree 1/2 cup
Red chilli powder 1/2 teaspoon
Salt to taste
Sugar 2 tablespoons
Kasoori methi 1/2 teaspoon
Fresh cream 1/2 cup


Apply a mixture of red chilli powder, lemon juice and salt to the chicken pieces and set aside for half an hour in the refrigerator.

Mix the ginger and garlic pastes, red chilli and garam masala powders, salt and mustard oil into the hung Curd. Apply this marinade to the chicken pieces and place them in the refrigerator for three to four hours.

Preheat the oven to 200°C/400°F/Gas Mark 6. String the chicken pieces onto skewers and cook in the preheated oven for 10-12 mins or until almost done.Baste with the butter and cook for another two minutes. Remove and set aside.

To make the gravy, heat the butter in a non-stick pan. Add the green cardamoms, cloves, peppercorns and cinnamon.Sauté for two minutes, add the ginger and garlic pastes and sauté for two minutes. Add the tomato puree, red chilli powder, salt and half cup of water.

Bring the mixture to a boil. Reduce the heat and simmer for ten minutes. Add the sugar or honey and powdered kasoori methi.

Add the cooked tandoori chicken pieces. Simmer for five minutes and add the fresh cream. Serve hot with naan or parantha.
