Ram Navami is a festival that celebrates the birth of Lord Rama. Lord Rama is an avatar of Lord Vishnu who came down to earth to battle the invincible Ravana in human form in the city of Ayodhya.The story of Lord Rama as told in the great epic Ramayana is one that most Indians know irrespective of caste, creed and religion. Lord Rama is a legendary figure, the epitome of all that is good and true.
As part of festivities, some people choose to fast on this day or 8 days prior. The diet of such a person would include potatoes made in any form without turmeric, garlic, ginger or onion. He can also eat fruit and root vegetables of any kind. Curd, tea, coffee, milk, and water are also permitted. Many restaurants in North India offer special Navratra fast Thalis during this time.
Bhajansand Artis are performed as part of the pujas for the dieties. Finally, prasad is distributed. Rama Navami celebrations in Ayodhya are remarkable. Devotees come to Ayodhya from far-flung places. After taking holy dip into river Saryu Devotees visit Rama temple to participate in birthday celebrations.

Jim Corbett National Park,located in Nainital district, is one of the most famous wildlife reserves of India. The Park is placed in the foothills of the Himalayas, in the midst of lush greenery and uneven mountains with varying heights, ranging from about 1300 feet to nearly 4000 feet. It is believed that the place, mostly lying on the banks of Ramaganga River, has prospered an ancient civilization. This park is famous for its wealthy flora and fauna. It is a natural habitat of the rare species of Tigers that are facing extinction which forms its major attraction.
As a tourist, if you like to move with some wild animals or to have some special view of herds of elephants or different species of deers, Corbett National Park offers you with the facilities of Jungle Safari. One can look for nature safari, to have bird watching and enjoying the precious nature.
You can also have Jeep safari through the jungles of Corbett and if lucky enough can even spot some tigers. If adventurous further or to have some memorable moments, can take up an Elephant safari, really amazing experience. Resorts in Corbett arrange the required facilities.
The beautiful landscape of Corbett is ideal for enjoying mountain biking. This adventure will take the tourists through deep woods, unexplored villages and scenic landscapes.
If you are looking for an experience for a life term, Corbett National Park offer you with the delight of Elephant rides. Tamed elephants are offered specially to tourists for having the amazing trip over a beautifully adorned elephants.
Dada HariVav (Stepwell)
An ancient monument that depicts the art and craft of the bygone eras, Dada HariVav were built in the year 1501. This octagonal shaped step well was constructed as a tranquil retreat for the vacationer.
Perched atop a huge rock in the midst of Kosi River, Garjia Temple is visited by many devotees and tourists from different parts of the country. It is located in Garjia village, around 14 km from Ramnagar.
Fishing is a lot of fun here. The catchment area of the perennial river Kosi covers part of Corbett National Park. Kosi is wealthy with the renowned and costly Mahseer fish.
River Kosi invites its guests to have a rafting in the most exciting breezy and calm waters of Kosi. The Corbett catchment area have many camping facilities and resorts, they arrange the equipments and facilities for river rafting.
From the Kitchen...
Thandai, also known as "Sardai", is a cold drink prepared with a mixture of almonds, fennel seeds, magaztari seeds (watermelon kernel), rose petals, pepper, vetiver seeds,cardamom, saffron, milk and sugar.
Almonds 1/3 cup
Poppy seeds 1 tbsp (khuskhus/gasagasalu)
Melon seeds 2 tbsp (magaz)
Fennel seeds /2 tsps (saunf/sompu)
Green Cardamom 5 (elaichi)
Black peppercorns 3/4 tsp (kali mirch/miriyalu)
Sugar 8 tbsps (adjust according to taste)
Milk 1 1/2 lts
Water 3/4 cup
Rose essence 1/2 tsp OR Dried rose petals (1 tsp)
Saffron few strands (kesar/kumkumpuvvu)
Pistachios fistful, crushed
Cashew nuts 2 tbsps
Soak almonds, melon and poppy seeds in water for 2 hours separately.
Boil milk, add sugar and allow to dissolve. Then turn off heat and allow it to cool.
Grind together the soaked and peeled almonds, drained melon seeds, poppy seeds, cashew nuts, fennel seeds, pepper corns and green cardamom into a smooth paste by adding Ό cup of water.
Add the ground paste to the milk-sugar mixture and mix well. Place lid and leave aside for 15 mins.
In a large bowl, strain the mixture. Keep the strained liquid aside. To the residue (almond spice mixture) add 1/2 cup water and strain again into the large bowl.
Add saffron strands and dried rose petals or rose essence to the strained liquid and mix. Chill in the refrigerator for at least 3 hours.
At the time of serving, pour into serving glasses. Top with crushed pistachios, slivered almonds and one or two saffron strands.
